SmartAdvocate Alternative and SmartAdvocate Competitors Compared by Price
Firms look for a SmartAdvocate alternative for two reasons: they run it today and the renewal or server upgrade is coming, or they sat through a demo and still have no number. This page sets out what SmartAdvocate actually publishes, read from its own FAQ, SmartIntelligence and intake pages on 26 September 2026, where it is still the right buy, what each realistic competitor costs, and when the thing losing you cases is a different kind of product altogether.

In short
SmartAdvocate is case management for litigation firms, sold as a Cloud or on premise Server version with no published price: its own FAQ says pricing is based on your firm's needs and sends you to a Business Development Specialist for a quote. The closest like for like with a printed price is CasePeer, at $90, $130 and $160 per user a month, with intake from $130. If what you need is every new inquiry screened and booked before another firm calls back, Consultations runs that intake conversation itself, from $49 a month for one attorney or $129 for up to five, in front of whatever case system you keep.
SmartAdvocate is a system of record for a litigation practice: cases, documents with more than 4,000 merge codes, WorkPlans and automated procedures, calendars synced with Outlook, mass tort master and member cases, a client portal and firm reporting, with a SmartIntelligence AI layer on top. Consultations does one job at the very front. It talks to the prospective client the moment they reach your website, asks your screening questions in plain conversation, checks the answers against the criteria your firm sets, collects the documents the matter needs and books the consultation, then hands the attorney a structured brief. If you want one platform to run the whole case, SmartAdvocate is a reasonable home. If signed cases are slipping because nobody reached the lead in time, that part can be fixed this week without moving a single file.
Side by side
SmartAdvocate vs Consultations, honestly
A fair look at what each does well. Both are capable tools. Here is where they differ.
| What matters | Consultations | SmartAdvocate |
|---|---|---|
| Published price | $49, $129 or $299 a month flat per firm, on the pricing page | None. The FAQ says pricing is based on your firm's needs; quote by phone |
| How it bills | Per firm, monthly or yearly at half the monthly price | Custom quote; Cloud (hosted) or Server (you own and maintain it) |
| Runs the intake conversation itself | Yes. An AI conversation screens every website inquiry at any hour | Yes by phone, through the SmartIntelligence Intake AI Voice Agent where enabled |
| Books the consultation | Yes, inside the same conversation, onto your calendar | Creates a lead and triggers follow up; calendar booking is not described |
| Conflict check at intake | Screens against the criteria you set; no conflicts database | Yes. The Intake Wizard runs an automatic conflict of interest check |
| Case management | Not included. It hands off a brief and an export | Full case management, documents, WorkPlans, mass tort and MDL support |
| Time to go live | Self serve, no implementation fee, no data migration | Data migration and training by the vendor after a quote |
Comparison reflects general, publicly understood positioning. Capabilities change, so check each product for the latest.
Why pros pick Consultations
One AI conversation that qualifies, intakes, books, and briefs
An AI conversation, not a form
Instead of a static form or a calendar link, our AI talks with each lead in plain language, qualifies them against your criteria, and asks for exactly what you need to know.
The whole front door in one place
Qualify, intake, collect documents, book the paid appointment, and produce a prepped brief, all in a single conversation, so you stop stitching tools together.
You walk in prepared
Every booked meeting comes with a clean brief of who is coming and why, so you only take the right consultations and you are ready before the call starts.
Why firms look for a SmartAdvocate alternative
Few firms leave SmartAdvocate because it is thin. Its own FAQ describes a fully browser based case management system with Outlook email and calendar integration, WorkPlans that turn each stage of a case into an automated checklist, document templates with more than 4,000 merge codes, unlimited document storage, a client portal, mobile apps and master and member cases for mass torts and MDL work. For a litigation firm that wants one system, that covers most of the practice.
The first practical reason is the number. Read on 26 September 2026, SmartAdvocate has no pricing page at all (the address returns a not found error), and its FAQ answers the question How Much Does SmartAdvocate Cost? by saying pricing is based on your firm's needs and giving a phone number for a Business Development Specialist. Capterra lists $109 per user a month for the Cloud version, and other directory summaries range from $40 to $120. None of those figures appears anywhere on the vendor's own site, and they do not agree with each other.
The second reason is the move. SmartAdvocate is a system of record, so switching to it or away from it means migrating cases, retraining staff and rebuilding WorkPlans. The Server version adds your own hardware, backups and IT time. The third reason is the one that decides revenue: a case system only helps once the lead is inside it. The person who fills in your website form at 10 at night signs with whichever firm reaches them first.
- No published price, and no pricing page on the vendor site
- Directory figures of $40 to $120 per user, including Capterra's $109, are not on the vendor site
- Two deployments: hosted Cloud, or a Server you own and maintain
- Switching means a full case migration and retraining
- Leads that arrive after hours still depend on what is enabled and staffed
What SmartAdvocate intake and SmartIntelligence include
Intake inside SmartAdvocate runs through the Intake Wizard. Its own article describes customizable intake forms per case type (defective drugs, medical devices, car accidents, slip and fall), automated lead tracking with follow up reminders for staff, multi channel intake from phone, email, web forms and walk ins, and reporting on conversion rates and marketing sources. The FAQ adds that creating a case through the Intake Wizard runs an automatic conflict of interest check, and that the system integrates with outside intake services, web chat and call centers.
SmartIntelligence is the newer AI layer. Its Intake AI Voice Agent answers new case calls around the clock, holds a conversation with the caller, collects key case details, creates a lead directly inside SmartAdvocate, populates the lead fields, triggers automated communications based on firm protocols and escalates potential high value cases to a live person when configured to do so. It can reuse the intake questionnaires your staff already works from. A second tool, the Intake Assistant Coach, listens to staff intake calls in real time and prompts them against the case questionnaire.
Two things are not on those pages. The vendor does not say whether SmartIntelligence is included in the base license or quoted separately, and it does not describe the voice agent booking the consultation onto an attorney's calendar. It creates the lead and hands the next step to your team. Ask both questions on the demo and get the answers in the written quote.
- Intake Wizard: case type forms, lead tracking, follow up reminders, source reporting
- Automatic conflict of interest check when a case is created
- Intake AI Voice Agent: 24/7 phone intake that creates the lead in SmartAdvocate
- Intake Assistant Coach: real time prompts for staff on intake calls
- Not stated: whether SmartIntelligence costs extra, and calendar booking by the agent
Where SmartAdvocate is still the better buy
If your firm runs mass torts, class actions or MDL dockets, SmartAdvocate was built with that work in mind: master cases linked to member cases, plaintiff fact sheets and criteria screening for each tort. Few general practice tools handle that, and an intake product certainly does not.
It is also one of the few platforms that still offers a Server version you own and run on your own hardware, which matters to a firm with strict data residency rules or an IT team that prefers it. And it covers more practice areas than the plaintiff only specialists: personal injury, workers compensation, Social Security disability, veterans affairs, employment, family, criminal defense and municipal legal teams all have their own pages.
So this page does not argue that you should leave SmartAdvocate. It argues that you should know which job you are buying it for, and whether the job losing you signed cases is a smaller one you can fix without a platform decision.
- Mass tort, class action and MDL case structures
- Server version you own, or a hosted Cloud version
- Document assembly with more than 4,000 merge codes
- Outlook email and calendar integration
- Practice area configurations well beyond personal injury
SmartAdvocate competitors, by the job you are replacing
CasePeer is the closest like for like for a personal injury firm, and unlike SmartAdvocate it prints a price. Read on 22 September 2026, it shows $90, $130 and $160 per user per month, with no long term contract or setup fee. Client intake management starts on Pro, so the honest intake floor there is $130 per user. CloudLex, built only for plaintiff PI firms, publishes no price and its own FAQ says directory figures are unauthorized estimates. Jove, formerly GrowPath, publishes no figure but states the first year is free apart from a fixed implementation fee.
Filevine and Litify are quote only case platforms, and Neos is Assembly Software's cloud successor to Needles. If lead tracking matters more than case management, Lead Docket (a Filevine product, custom quote) or Law Ruler (quote only, billed monthly on an annual term) are the usual picks. Lawmatics, which announced a native SmartAdvocate integration on 17 March 2026, publishes no price and has a three user minimum on Essential and Premium.
Of that field, only CasePeer publishes a price. And apart from the voice agents inside SmartAdvocate and CloudLex, none of them talks to the prospective client for you. If your team is the bottleneck, or web inquiries arrive after the team has gone home, the alternative is a different kind of product: one that screens the prospect, collects documents and books the consultation on its own, in front of whichever case system you choose.
- PI case management with a real price: CasePeer, $130 per user for intake
- PI only, quote only: CloudLex; free first year: Jove
- Lead tracking and attribution: Lead Docket or Law Ruler, both quote only
- Legal CRM that syncs into SmartAdvocate: Lawmatics, quote only
- The website conversation itself, at any hour: an AI intake agent from $49 a month
Running Consultations with SmartAdvocate, or instead of it
The most common setup is to keep SmartAdvocate and put Consultations at the front door of your website. The prospective client talks to the intake conversation, answers the screening questions your firm defines (date of the incident, treatment so far, liability facts, insurance, whether another firm is already involved), uploads photos or a police report, and books a consultation if they fit. The completed intake, with answers and documents, is yours to export into SmartAdvocate, where the Intake Wizard and its conflict check take over. The Firm plan adds advanced integrations.
Choosing Consultations instead of a new platform makes sense for a smaller firm that was shopping mainly to stop losing inquiries and whose current case system is fine. In that case the part you needed was the intake itself, and it goes live the same day without a migration or a quote. Solo is $49 a month for one attorney. Practice, at $129 for up to five professionals, adds document collection during intake and qualification rules per practice area. Firm, at $299 for up to twenty, adds voice intake alongside chat and advanced integrations. All three are flat per firm, with no implementation fee.
Every plan is paid by card, either monthly with no annual term or once a year at half the monthly price: $288, $768 or $1,788. You can run the intake conversation at the top of this page right now and see exactly what a prospective client would see.
- Alongside SmartAdvocate: web intake runs first, the record exports to your case system
- Instead of a new platform, if intake was the job: $129 a month with document collection
- No per user charge at any tier, no implementation fee
- Monthly with no annual term, or yearly at half the monthly price
- Live the same day, with your own screening questions

Per user SmartAdvocate figures circulate on software directories: Capterra lists $109 a month for Cloud, and other summaries range from $40 to $120. None of them appears on smartadvocate.com, which has no pricing page, so we do not treat any of them as a price. CasePeer's figures are its monthly per user list prices. Vendors change prices without notice, so confirm with the vendor before you sign.

What buyers ask about SmartAdvocate alternatives
What is the best alternative to SmartAdvocate?
It depends on the job. For personal injury case management with a published price, CasePeer is the closest match, at $130 per user a month for the tier that includes intake. For mass torts, SmartAdvocate is hard to replace. If web leads wait too long for a person to screen them, Consultations runs the intake conversation itself, from $49 a month.
How much does SmartAdvocate cost?
SmartAdvocate does not publish a price. Read on 26 September 2026, its website has no pricing page, and its FAQ says pricing is based on your firm's needs, with a tailored quote from a Business Development Specialist at 1-877-438-7627. Per user figures on software directories are not from the vendor.
Is SmartAdvocate cloud based?
Both. SmartAdvocate Cloud is a hosted version run by the vendor. SmartAdvocate Server is software you own and maintain on your own server, with backups and maintenance handled by your IT staff. The vendor says both versions are fully browser based, so either can be used from a laptop, tablet or phone.
Who are SmartAdvocate's competitors?
SmartAdvocate competes with other litigation and personal injury case management platforms: CasePeer, CloudLex, Filevine, Litify, Jove (formerly GrowPath) and Neos, the cloud successor to Needles, plus general practice tools such as Clio and MyCase. Of the PI specialists, CasePeer is the one that prints a price on its own page.
Does SmartAdvocate have AI intake?
Yes. SmartIntelligence includes an Intake AI Voice Agent that answers new case calls 24/7, collects case details, creates the lead inside SmartAdvocate and can escalate high value cases to a live person. The vendor does not say on its pages whether SmartIntelligence is included in the base license, so confirm it in the quote.
Does SmartAdvocate integrate with Lawmatics?
Yes. Lawmatics announced a native integration with SmartAdvocate on 17 March 2026. Firms using both can sync matter details, contacts, notes, documents and custom fields from Lawmatics into SmartAdvocate once a lead signs. Lawmatics itself publishes no price and has a three user minimum on its Essential and Premium tiers.
