Law Ruler Alternative and Law Ruler Competitors Compared by Price

Law Ruler has been selling to law firms since 2013, mostly personal injury, mass tort and other high volume consumer practices, and it does a lot in one login: a legal CRM, custom intake forms with e-signature, text and email drip campaigns, a built in softphone and marketing dashboards. Firms that go looking for a Law Ruler alternative are usually reacting to one of three things: a quote they cannot compare, an annual term they did not expect, or the discovery that a CRM stores leads beautifully while the leads still wait for someone to call. This page sets out what Law Ruler publishes, read from its pricing page on 21 September 2026, where it is still the better buy, and what each realistic alternative costs.

In short

Law Ruler is a legal CRM with intake forms, marketing automation and reporting, sold in three tiers (Pro, Premium, Enterprise) that all say "Contact for Personalized Quote" and are billed monthly on an annual term. The right alternative depends on the job. For lead tracking and attribution, Lead Docket and Lawmatics are the closest like for like, and both are quote only too. If the real problem is that inquiries wait for a person to call them back, Consultations runs the intake conversation itself, qualifies the inquiry and books the consultation, from $49 a month for a solo attorney or $129 for up to five with document collection, with the price on the page.

Law Ruler is a system of record with automation around it: it stores every lead, sends the follow up sequences, generates the documents and reports on marketing sources. Consultations does one job at the very front. It talks to the prospective client the moment they arrive, asks your screening questions in plain conversation, checks the answers against the criteria your firm sets, requests the documents the matter needs and books the consultation, then hands the attorney a structured brief. If you want one platform for CRM, campaigns and reporting, Law Ruler is a reasonable home. If the leads in your CRM are going cold before anyone qualifies them, that is the part worth fixing first, and it works alongside whatever CRM you keep.

Law Ruler vs Consultations, honestly

A fair look at what each does well. Both are capable tools. Here is where they differ.

What matters Consultations Law Ruler
Published price $49, $129 or $299 a month flat per firm, on the pricing page No figure on any tier. Pro, Premium and Enterprise all say Contact for Personalized Quote
Contract term Monthly with no annual commitment, or yearly at half the monthly price Billed monthly on an annual term; 15 percent off for annual prepaid
Runs the intake conversation itself Yes. An AI conversation screens every inquiry at any hour Intake forms and a softphone for your staff; a person works the lead
Qualifies against firm criteria before booking Every inquiry is scored against the criteria you set, edge cases flagged Conditional logic on forms; the qualifying decision stays with staff
Marketing automation and drip campaigns Not included. This is deliberately not a marketing platform Text, email and voice campaigns; email campaigns are Premium and above

Why pros pick Consultations

One AI conversation that qualifies, intakes, books, and briefs

An AI conversation, not a form

Instead of a static form or a calendar link, our AI talks with each lead in plain language, qualifies them against your criteria, and asks for exactly what you need to know.

The whole front door in one place

Qualify, intake, collect documents, book the paid appointment, and produce a prepped brief, all in a single conversation, so you stop stitching tools together.

You walk in prepared

Every booked meeting comes with a clean brief of who is coming and why, so you only take the right consultations and you are ready before the call starts.

Why firms look for a Law Ruler alternative

Nobody we talk to leaves Law Ruler because it lacks features. Its pricing page lists a CRM, two way text messaging, custom intake forms with file requests, one click e-signature, document automation for Word, PDF and Excel, appointment management, referral tracking, an open API and marketing dashboards. For a personal injury firm running paid media, that is most of the back office in one place.

The reasons are more practical. The first is the quote. Read on 21 September 2026, every tier on the pricing page says Contact for Personalized Quote, so there is no number to budget against until you have sat through a demo. The second is the term. The page states that subscription pricing is billed monthly on an annual term, which means the monthly invoice sits inside a 12 month commitment, with 15 percent off if you prepay the year. Firms that read "billed monthly" as "cancel any month" find out at renewal.

The third reason is the one that matters most for revenue. A CRM is excellent at holding a lead and reminding someone to work it. It does not answer the inquiry that arrives at 9:40 on a Saturday night, and it does not decide whether a rear end collision with no treatment yet is a case your firm takes. Those minutes and those judgment calls are where signed cases are won or lost.

  • Every tier is quote only, so there is nothing to compare before the demo
  • Billed monthly on an annual term, with 15 percent off for prepaying the year
  • A one time onboarding fee on Pro and Premium
  • Pro and Premium cap users at 3; Enterprise starts at 10
  • Leads still wait for a person to call them back and qualify them

What each Law Ruler tier actually includes

Because the tiers carry no price, the feature split is the only thing you can evaluate before a sales call, and it is worth reading closely. Pro includes up to 3 users, 10,000 contacts, 3 automations, a plain text email builder, a basic marketing dashboard and basic custom reports. Two items are marked with an asterisk as not included on Pro: email marketing campaigns and marketing source reporting.

That second exclusion is the one to notice. Marketing source reporting is the feature most personal injury firms buy a legal CRM for, because it tells you which ad spend produces signed cases. On Law Ruler it starts on Premium, which keeps the same 3 user limit, raises contacts to 15,000 and automations to 100, and adds the HTML email builder and advanced dashboards. Enterprise removes the contact and automation limits and adds white glove setup, with a 10 user minimum.

Support is the same on every tier according to the service comparison: a 24/7 online help center and live phone and email support from 9 to 5 Eastern, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. Data migration is self serve on Pro and Premium and guided on Enterprise. An optional time and billing platform with payments is available on every tier at additional cost.

  • Pro: up to 3 users, 10,000 contacts, 3 automations, no email campaigns, no marketing source reporting
  • Premium: up to 3 users, 15,000 contacts, 100 automations, email campaigns and source reporting
  • Enterprise: 10 user minimum, unlimited contacts and automations, white glove setup
  • Live support 9 to 5 Eastern on weekdays on every tier
  • Time and billing with payments is an extra charge on every tier

Where Law Ruler is still the better buy

If your firm spends heavily on advertising, runs a dedicated intake team and wants the CRM, the drip campaigns, the documents and the marketing reports under one login, Law Ruler is a serious option and the Premium tier is where it earns its keep. It is built around the practice areas that generate volume: personal injury, mass tort, consumer protection, Social Security disability, employment, immigration, criminal defense and business law.

Text, email and voice campaigns are a real strength. A firm that nurtures leads over weeks, or re-engages old inquiries when a mass tort opens, needs campaign tooling that an intake tool does not try to provide. The built in softphone and two way texting also keep the intake team inside one system instead of three.

So this page does not argue that you should leave Law Ruler. It argues that you should know which job you are paying it for, and whether the job losing you cases is a different one.

  • CRM, campaigns, documents and reporting in one platform
  • Built for high volume consumer practice areas
  • Text, email and voice drip campaigns for long nurture cycles
  • Built in softphone and two way SMS for an intake team
  • Open API on every tier

Law Ruler competitors, by the job you are replacing

Lead Docket is the closest like for like if attribution is the point. It is Filevine's lead management product, it now scores Lead Viability with AI and syncs natively into Filevine, and its pricing page, read 21 September 2026, is a custom quote form with no figure. Lawmatics covers intake, CRM and marketing automation with a similar breadth; read on 9 September 2026 it publishes no price on any tier, with a 3 user minimum on Essential and Premium and 5 on Enterprise.

Clio Grow is the choice if you already run Clio Manage. Clio publishes a starting price of $49 per user per month across its range, and Grow is included in the Elite plans and sold as an add on for the lower ones. CasePeer, built for personal injury case management, publishes $90, $130 and $160 per user per month (read 22 September 2026), but intake fields are blank on Basic, so the honest floor for intake there is $130. Jove, the platform formerly called GrowPath, publishes no figure and states a first year priced as implementation only.

None of those tools runs the intake conversation. They give your intake team a better place to work. If the team is the bottleneck, or the inquiries arrive when the team is not there, the alternative is a different kind of product: one that talks to the prospective client, screens them, collects documents and books the consultation on its own.

  • Lead tracking and attribution: Lead Docket, quote only, Filevine native
  • Intake plus CRM plus campaigns: Lawmatics, quote only, 3 user minimum
  • Already on Clio: Clio Grow, from $49 per user on Clio's published range
  • PI case management with intake: CasePeer, $130 per user for intake
  • The conversation itself, at any hour: an AI intake agent from $49 a month

Running Consultations with Law Ruler, or instead of it

The most common setup is to keep Law Ruler as the system of record and put Consultations at the front door. The prospective client talks to the intake conversation on your website, answers the screening questions your firm defines, uploads what the matter needs and books a consultation if they fit. The completed intake, with the answers and the documents, is yours to export into the CRM your team already works in, and the Firm plan adds advanced integrations, so your campaigns and reports keep running on better data.

Replacing Law Ruler entirely makes sense for a smaller firm that bought a CRM mainly to stop losing inquiries and uses little of the campaign tooling. In that case the part you needed was the intake itself. Solo is $49 a month for one attorney. Practice, at $129 for up to five professionals, adds document collection during intake and qualification rules per practice area, which is where most firms land. Firm, at $299 for up to twenty, adds voice intake alongside chat and advanced integrations. All three are flat per firm rather than per seat, with no onboarding fee.

Every plan is paid by card through Stripe, either monthly with no annual term or once a year at half the monthly price: $288, $768 or $1,788. You can run the intake conversation at the top of this page right now and see exactly what a prospective client would see.

  • Alongside Law Ruler: intake runs first, the completed record exports to your CRM
  • Instead of Law Ruler, if intake was the job: $129 a month with document collection
  • Up to 5 professionals: $129 a month flat
  • Up to 20 professionals: $299 a month flat
  • Monthly with no annual term, or yearly at half the monthly price

Consultations Practice $129 a month, or $768 a year Up to 5 professionals, flat Yes

Law Ruler states that Pro excludes email marketing campaigns and marketing source reporting, that time and billing is an optional extra on every tier, and that annual prepaid saves 15 percent. Several software directories quote dollar figures for Law Ruler, including a per user starting rate and a fixed onboarding fee; none of those figures appears on the vendor page, so we do not repeat them. Vendors change prices without notice, so confirm with the vendor before you sign.

People also ask

What buyers ask about Law Ruler alternatives

What is the best alternative to Law Ruler?

It depends on the job you are replacing. For lead tracking and marketing attribution, Lead Docket and Lawmatics are the closest like for like, and both are quote only. Clio Grow suits firms already on Clio. If the problem is inquiries waiting for someone to call back and qualify them, Consultations runs that intake conversation itself, from $49 a month, or $129 for a team of up to five.

How much does Law Ruler cost?

Law Ruler does not publish a price. Read on 21 September 2026, all three tiers, Pro, Premium and Enterprise, say Contact for Personalized Quote. The page states billing is monthly on an annual term, annual prepaid saves 15 percent, Pro and Premium carry a one time onboarding fee, and Enterprise has a 10 user minimum.

Who are Law Ruler's competitors?

Law Ruler's main competitors are Lead Docket, Lawmatics, Clio Grow, CasePeer and Jove, formerly GrowPath. All of them sell a place for an intake team to track and work leads, and only CasePeer and Clio publish a figure. An AI intake agent competes differently, by running the qualifying conversation instead of storing it.

Does Law Ruler require an annual contract?

Yes, going by its own pricing page. Read on 21 September 2026, it states that subscription pricing is billed monthly on an annual term, so the monthly invoice sits inside a 12 month commitment. Prepaying the year saves 15 percent. Ask for the renewal and cancellation terms in writing before you sign.

Is Law Ruler good for personal injury firms?

Law Ruler is built for high volume consumer practices, and personal injury is the first practice area it lists. Its campaigns, softphone and marketing source reporting suit a PI firm with a dedicated intake team and a real ad budget. Note that source reporting is on Premium and above, not on Pro.

Is Law Ruler or Lead Docket the better choice?

They overlap heavily and both are quote only. Lead Docket is the stronger pick for a Filevine firm, since it syncs natively and now scores Lead Viability with AI. Law Ruler bundles more marketing automation, including text, email and voice campaigns, in one CRM. Neither runs the intake conversation, so compare them on the reporting and workflow you need.

Good questions

Law Ruler vs Consultations, answered

Yes, and for firms that rely on Law Ruler campaigns and reporting it is the sensible setup. Consultations runs the intake conversation on your website, qualifies the inquiry against your criteria, collects documents and books the consultation. The completed intake is exportable, so it can go into the CRM your team already uses.
No, it is per firm. Solo is $49 a month for one professional, Practice is $129 for up to five and Firm is $299 for up to twenty. Pay monthly with no annual term, or once a year at half the monthly price: $288, $768 or $1,788. There is no onboarding fee.
No. It handles intake, qualification, document collection and scheduling only. It asks the questions your firm defines, tells a prospective client honestly when the matter falls outside what you take, and leaves every legal judgment to the attorney, who gets a structured brief before the consultation.
No. It does not send marketing sequences and is not trying to. If long nurture campaigns and mass tort re-engagement are central to how you sign cases, keep a CRM that does them well. Consultations handles the first conversation, which is where most unworked leads are lost.
