HoneyBook Alternative for Coaches and Consultants, HoneyBook Alternatives Compared by Price
HoneyBook is a strong product for service businesses that live on proposals, contracts and invoices. Coaches and consultants start looking for a HoneyBook alternative for narrower reasons: the $29 plan they signed up for turns out not to include booking, card fees on every client payment add up faster than the subscription, or a second coach joins and the seat limit on Essentials comes into view. This page prices the realistic alternatives from each vendor pricing page, says honestly where HoneyBook is still the better buy, and shows what the discovery call step looks like when it screens people instead of booking anyone who clicks.

In short
HoneyBook sells three plans, read from honeybook.com/pricing on 15 October 2026: Starter at $29, Essentials at $49 and Premium at $109 a month, all billed yearly. Starter has no Scheduler, so a coach whose clients book sessions online is really comparing Essentials at $49 a month billed yearly, or $59 month to month. If you want an all in one coaching suite instead, Paperbell is $97 a month and adds no transaction fees of its own. If your real problem is a calendar full of discovery calls that never convert, Consultations qualifies every prospect in a conversation before a time is offered, from $49 a month with no annual term.
HoneyBook runs the money side of a service business: inquiries, proposals, contracts, invoices, payments and a client portal, with a Scheduler from Essentials up. Consultations does one job at the very front. It talks to the prospect on your website, asks your qualifying questions in plain conversation, follows up when an answer is vague, scores the answers against your criteria and books the people who fit into the calendar you already use. Edge cases are flagged for your review, and every booked call arrives with a short brief. If proposals and invoicing are the center of your week, HoneyBook is a fine home and Consultations can sit in front of it. If the part of HoneyBook you really used was a lead form and a booking link, Consultations replaces that part for $49 a month.
Side by side
HoneyBook vs Consultations, honestly
A fair look at what each does well. Both are capable tools. Here is where they differ.
| What matters | Consultations | HoneyBook |
|---|---|---|
| Qualifies the prospect before the discovery call | An AI conversation scores every inquiry against your criteria before offering a time | Lead forms and the Scheduler collect answers, but anyone can take an open slot |
| Cheapest plan that lets clients book online | Solo at $49 a month, booking included on every plan | Essentials at $49 a month billed yearly or $59 monthly; Starter has no Scheduler |
| Annual commitment | None required. Monthly by card, or yearly at half the monthly price | Headline prices are billed yearly; month to month is higher |
| Fee on client payments | None. Consultations does not process client payments | Card fees from 2.7% plus 10 cents, ACH 1.5% |
| More than one professional | Practice covers up to 5 at $129, Firm up to 20 at $299, flat per firm | Essentials allows up to 2 team members; unlimited needs Premium at $109 |
| Proposals, contracts and invoicing | Not included. This is deliberately not a billing product | Included on every plan, with a client portal |
| Brief before the call | Every booking arrives with a structured summary of the answers | Form responses are stored on the client record for you to read |

Why pros pick Consultations
One AI conversation that qualifies, intakes, books, and briefs
An AI conversation, not a form
Instead of a static form or a calendar link, our AI talks with each lead in plain language, qualifies them against your criteria, and asks for exactly what you need to know.
The whole front door in one place
Qualify, intake, collect documents, book the paid appointment, and produce a prepped brief, all in a single conversation, so you stop stitching tools together.
You walk in prepared
Every booked meeting comes with a clean brief of who is coming and why, so you only take the right consultations and you are ready before the call starts.
Why coaches look for a HoneyBook alternative
HoneyBook was built for creative service businesses, photographers, planners and designers who send a proposal, get a contract signed and collect a deposit. Coaches and consultants adopted it because the same flow covers a coaching package, and for a lot of them it works well. The complaints we hear are specific, and most of them trace back to plan structure rather than to the product.
The first is booking. Read on 15 October 2026, HoneyBook lists its Scheduler, the schedule and pay option and automatic meeting reminders on Essentials, not on Starter. A coach who picked the $29 plan because it was the number on the page finds that clients cannot book a session without an upgrade. The same page shows Essentials at $49 a month billed yearly, down from $59, and Premium at $109, down from $129.
The second is fees. HoneyBook processes client payments itself, with card fees starting at 2.7% plus 10 cents and ACH at 1.5%. On a coaching practice billing $5,000 a month by card, that fee line is roughly $140 a month, well above the subscription. The third is team size: Essentials allows up to 2 team members, and a coach who brings on a second and third associate is looking at Premium.
- Starter at $29 has no Scheduler, so booking starts at Essentials
- Headline prices are billed yearly; month to month costs more
- Card fees from 2.7% plus 10 cents on every client payment
- Essentials stops at 2 team members; unlimited is Premium at $109
- Lead forms record answers but do not decide who gets a call
Where HoneyBook is still the better buy
If your week runs on proposals, contracts and invoices, HoneyBook is hard to replace. Every plan includes unlimited clients and projects, invoices and payments, proposals and contracts, a client portal and HoneyBook AI, and Essentials adds automations, SMS reminders and a QuickBooks Online integration. Consultants who send custom scopes and bill in milestones get more out of that than coaches who sell a fixed package.
It is also a low risk trial. HoneyBook says every plan starts with a free trial, and its pricing page offers a 60 day money back guarantee after that. Its US based support team answers email and live chat seven days a week, and it will turn your existing files into templates for you.
So this page does not argue you should leave HoneyBook. It argues you should know which part of it you are paying for, and whether the part costing you clients is one a booking page cannot fix.
- Proposals, contracts, invoices and payments in one flow
- Unlimited clients and projects on every plan
- QuickBooks Online integration and automations on Essentials
- Free trial, then a 60 day money back guarantee
- US based email and chat support seven days a week
HoneyBook alternatives for coaches, by what you are replacing
Paperbell is the closest like for like for a coach. Re-read on 13 October 2026 it sells one paid plan at $97 a month or $970 a year, up from $57 in September, with scheduling, packages, contracts, a client portal and a coaching website included, and it states no additional transaction fees of its own. Against HoneyBook Essentials billed yearly at $588, Paperbell is now $382 a year more, which a busy coach can recover only through the card fees HoneyBook charges and Paperbell does not.
Dubsado is the other general service business suite. Its pricing page shows Starter at $335 a year and Premier at $525 a year, and Starter excludes scheduling, so the honest comparison is Premier at $525. Plutio is the budget option: Core at $19 a month for up to 9 active clients, Pro at $49 with unlimited clients. CoachAccountable prices by active client, from $20 a month for 2, and suits a small, high value roster.
None of these changes who books your discovery call. Every one of them puts a form or a booking link in front of it, and a link books whoever clicks. If your calendar is full and your close rate is not, the alternative is a different kind of product.
- Coaching suite with no transaction fees of its own: Paperbell, $97 a month
- General service business suite: Dubsado Premier, $525 a year
- Budget all in one: Plutio Core, $19 a month for up to 9 active clients
- Price by roster size: CoachAccountable, from $20 a month
- Fewer, better discovery calls: an intake conversation that qualifies first, $49 a month
The discovery call problem a scheduler does not solve
Most coaches and consultants offer a free 20 or 30 minute discovery call, and most of them describe those calls the same way: the most expensive hours of the week. Eight calls at 30 minutes, plus prep and follow up, is five or six hours spent on people who have not paid. When two convert, that is a good week. When one does, and the rest wanted free advice, sat outside your niche or could never afford the program, those hours are gone.
A HoneyBook lead form collects answers and the Scheduler offers times. Neither acts on the answers, so the slot is taken whatever the prospect said, and you find out on the call. Adding more form questions only moves the drop off earlier.
Consultations replaces the form and the link with a conversation. It asks the questions you would ask in the first ten minutes, follows up where an answer is thin, and scores the prospect against the criteria you set: budget, goal, timeline and fit with your niche. Strong fits are offered a time. Edge cases are flagged for you to decide, and nothing is rejected automatically. Every booked call arrives with a brief, so it starts at the point where it can close.
- Qualifies on budget, goal, timeline and niche before a slot is offered
- Asks follow up questions a static form cannot
- Flags edge cases for your review instead of rejecting them
- Hands you a brief before every booked discovery call
- Books into the calendar you already use
Running Consultations alongside HoneyBook, or instead of it
You do not have to choose. A common setup keeps HoneyBook for proposals, contracts and invoices and puts Consultations in front of the discovery call, so only qualified prospects ever reach a proposal. That runs $49 plus whichever HoneyBook plan you keep, and if you only kept Essentials for the Scheduler, Starter at $29 is enough once booking happens in Consultations.
If you already invoice through your accountant or a payment processor, and the part of HoneyBook you used was the lead form and the booking link, Consultations on its own replaces that part. Solo is $49 a month for one professional with one connected calendar. Practice is $129 a month for up to five professionals, with custom qualification rules per service and document collection during intake. Firm is $299 for up to twenty, flat per firm rather than per seat.
Every plan is paid by card, monthly with no annual term or once a year at half the monthly price: $288, $768 or $1,788. You can run the intake conversation at the top of this page right now and see exactly what a prospect would see.
- Alongside HoneyBook: qualified prospects only, and Starter may be enough
- Instead of HoneyBook, if you only used the form and booking link: $49 a month
- Coaching or consulting team of up to 5: $129 a month flat
- Up to 20 professionals: $299 a month flat
- Monthly by card with no annual term, or $288 a year on Solo

What buyers ask about HoneyBook alternatives
What is a good alternative to HoneyBook?
For coaches, Paperbell is the closest match: one plan at $97 a month with scheduling, packages and contracts, and no transaction fees of its own. Dubsado Premier at $525 a year suits general service businesses, and Plutio Core at $19 a month is the budget pick. If the problem is unqualified discovery calls, Consultations screens prospects first, from $49 a month.
What is the cheapest alternative to HoneyBook?
Among suites that let clients book online, Plutio Core is the cheapest published price at $19 a month, capped at 9 active clients, and CoachAccountable starts at $20 a month for 2 active clients. HoneyBook Starter is $29 a month billed yearly but has no Scheduler, so it is not a like for like comparison.
Is HoneyBook good for coaches?
It works well for coaches who sell custom packages with proposals, contracts and invoices. It fits less well when booking is the core need, because the Scheduler starts on Essentials at $49 a month billed yearly, and when client payments are large, because card fees start at 2.7% plus 10 cents. Coaching specific suites such as Paperbell bundle sessions and packages differently.
How much does HoneyBook cost per month?
Read on 15 October 2026, HoneyBook Starter is $29, Essentials $49 and Premium $109 a month, all billed yearly. Billed month to month, the same plans show $36, $59 and $129. Card payments add fees from 2.7% plus 10 cents, and ACH transfers 1.5%, on top of the subscription.
Is Dubsado or HoneyBook better for coaches?
For booking, compare the plans that include it: Dubsado Premier at $525 a year against HoneyBook Essentials at $588 a year billed yearly. Dubsado is more configurable and has no scheduling on Starter; HoneyBook is simpler and processes payments itself. Coaches selling fixed packages often find Paperbell a closer fit than either.
Does HoneyBook Starter include scheduling?
No. On HoneyBook's pricing page read on 15 October 2026, the Scheduler, schedule and pay booking and automatic meeting reminders are listed from Essentials up, not on Starter. A coach who needs clients to book sessions online should compare Essentials at $49 a month billed yearly, or $59 month to month.
