CARET Legal, the product formerly sold as Zola Suite, lists three plans at $79, $99 and $119 per user per month on annual billing, plus one-time implementation fees it does not price. A five person firm pays $4,740, $5,940 or $7,140 a year in subscription alone, before onboarding, data migration or the client portal add-on.

Figures were read from the vendor pricing page on 1 November 2026. We sell Consultations, an intake product that sits in front of a practice system, so we have an interest in this topic. Every number below is the vendor's, and the arithmetic is ours.

CARET Legal pricing at a glance

PlanPrice per user, billed annuallyOne user, one yearFive users, one year
Enterprise$79 a month$948$4,740
Enterprise Plus$99 a month$1,188$5,940
Enterprise Insights$119 a month$1,428$7,140

The page says pricing is "per user plus one-time implementation fees". The subscription rows above are the only dollar figures it prints. Monthly billing is not shown, so if you do not want to commit for a year, ask for that rate in writing.

What each CARET Legal plan includes

Enterprise covers the core of a practice system: built-in email, document management, calendaring, task and contact management, billing, accounting, reporting, a client portal, document storage, LEDES invoicing, integrated payments and phone support at any hour. That is a broad base for $79.

Enterprise Plus adds the pieces that save staff time: standard analytics dashboards, automated workflows, custom permissions, department based accounting, native document editing, unlimited matter related document storage and AI generated document summaries. If you were counting on automated workflows to move a matter from stage to stage, that is the plan that holds them. Enterprise Insights adds configurable analytics, where you choose the metrics and the reports.

The costs outside the subscription

Three items sit beside the per user rate, and none carries a printed price.

  • Implementation. The vendor describes white-glove packages with dedicated onboarding support, training and data migration from cloud and legacy systems. These are quoted by firm, so ask for the figure and the hours behind it.
  • Premium Support. An add-on with round-the-clock access to a dedicated team. The page notes a minimum of 25 users and a minimum term, which puts it out of reach for a small firm. Standard support is included on every plan.
  • Custom branded portals. Mobile and web portals in your firm's branding, where clients pay invoices by card or replenish a retainer. It is listed as an add-on with no price.

A fair first year budget for a five person firm is therefore the subscription plus an implementation quote plus the portal if you want branding. We cannot give you that total, because the vendor does not publish the last two. What we can say is that the subscription figure understates the first year, and you should not compare it with a tool that prints an all in price without adding a quote.

How CARET Legal compares with other practice systems on price

Practice systems fall into three groups: those that print a per user price, those that print a starting figure, and those that quote only. CARET Legal prints three tiers but not the implementation cost, which puts it between the first and last groups.

Is CARET Legal worth it for a small firm?

It is worth it when you want accounting, billing and documents in one place and would pay for a vendor to move you onto it. The built-in accounting and LEDES invoicing are the strongest reasons to choose it, since many small firm tools leave that to a separate package. It is a weaker fit when you want to start today at a fixed price, because the implementation step means a conversation with sales before you see a total.

Billing is also where the money often leaks afterward. A firm that issues invoices through the portal still has to chase the ones that go unpaid, and a tool that follows up on overdue invoices by email and text can take that off your staff once the system is live.

What CARET Legal does not do for new inquiries

CARET Legal stores prospects and contacts, and the page lists "Prospect and Contact Management" as a feature. It records a lead once your team enters or imports it. It does not hold a conversation with the person who fills in your contact form at 9pm, ask what the matter is, collect the adverse party's name for a conflict check or offer them a time to speak to a lawyer.

That is the gap Consultations fills. It answers each inquiry on your site at any hour, asks your screening questions and follows up when an answer is thin. It scores the matter against your criteria, books qualified prospects into your calendar and gives your team a brief before the call. It works in front of CARET Legal or any other system, from $49 a month for one professional or $129 for up to five, flat, with no per user charge. It handles intake and scheduling only, and the attorney gives the advice. You can run a sample conversation in the Intake Desk at the top of this page, and our Zola Suite alternatives page sets the two side by side.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • The all in first year total at your exact headcount, with implementation as a separate line
  • How many hours of data migration are included and what is billed beyond them
  • Whether automated workflows, which sit on Enterprise Plus, are essential to your matters
  • The price of the branded portal and whether it is annual or one time
  • The renewal rate and the notice required before a price change
  • Whether monthly billing is available and at what premium

Frequently asked questions

How much does CARET Legal cost?

CARET Legal lists $79, $99 and $119 per user a month on annual billing for its Enterprise, Enterprise Plus and Enterprise Insights plans. It adds one-time implementation fees that are not published. A five person firm pays $4,740 to $7,140 a year in subscription before implementation.

Is CARET Legal the same as Zola Suite?

Yes. The product that was sold as Zola Suite now appears under the CARET Legal name, and the old Zola Suite web address shows the CARET Legal pricing page. Search results and older reviews still use the Zola Suite name, so look for both when you compare prices.

Does CARET Legal charge an implementation fee?

Yes. The pricing page states that pricing is per user plus one-time implementation fees, and describes onboarding, training and data migration packages. No amount is printed, so request a written quote before you compare it with a system that publishes an all in price.

Does CARET Legal include client intake?

It includes prospect and contact management and a client portal, but it does not describe a conversation that screens and books new inquiries. A firm that wants every inquiry answered and qualified around the clock adds a separate intake step in front of it.
